Creating a Focal Point for your Design

When planning to decorate a room in your home, you may have a focal point in mind. You may want to emphasize a painting, a vase, or collectibles. There may be a particular piece of fabric that caught your eye. While you were out shopping, you saw a fantastic rug and decided you must have it but it does not fit the current decor of the room. You may be tired of the paint on the walls. The room looks dull. It is not inviting or warm. You can use these items as a start to creating a focal point for your design.

The piece of fabric that caught your eye is just the thing to spice up your room. You had been planning to make changes to a particular room and this fabric would be ideal. If the fabric is multicolored, you may have your palette of colors for the room. You can match or contrast your wall color to the fabric. If you choose your fabric first, it may be easier to select the color for the wall.

Rugs are like paintings. When you see one that catches your eye, just as with fabric, you may use it as a ready-made Creating a Focal Point for your Designpalette for the color scheme of your room.

You can create a beautiful design for a room by focusing on a prized painting. You can select a color from the painting to highlight in the furnishings and fabric you use in the room. It can also serve as the basis for the wall color. You want to capture the essence of the painting. You do not want it to blend into the wall where it hangs nor do you want to use a color that will overpower it.

If you using a particular item as the basis to decorate your room, you can select your paint color in complementary colors. If you can not find the desired hue, you can usually get a custom mix at your local home improvement store.
